This project involved a deep retrofit and re-design of the interior of an existing dwelling in Camolin, Co.Wexford.
The clients had lived in the house for a few years and as their family grew, they needed both additional living space and modernisation of their home. The existing house could be described as a typical large rural house. The house did not take advantage of the movement of the sun or the views which the site afforded. The house was a series of cellular rooms with no connection or flow.
The first design decisions we made were to address the flow of the interior space, address the functional elements of the house, increase the amount of natural sunlight in the
house and open up the external walls to the views. This involved a new westward extension, internal amendments and a new Master Bedroom Suite.
We thought about the functional parts of the house and created a new laundry room and pantry off the kitchen. In the entrance hall we created a simple modern stairs.
On the ground floor, in addition to the open plan living space, we have created a playroom for the children, and a snug room for cosy Tv watching.
The family room features a polished plaster fireplace and vaulted ceiling. The engineered herringbone floor and oak beams add warmth to this room.
In collaboration with both Andrew Ryan Kitchens who supplied the Kitchen and Michael Farrell Furniture who supplied the utility room units and fitted wardrobes, this house has been completely transformed from a dark outdated house to a light filled, classic contemporary home.
The essence of giving a client what they want is good communication! We use the latest BIM technology which allows us to demonstrate proposals to our clients using interactive 3D models, computer generated images and videos. We can even do this remotely using Virtual Meeting software if necessary. In this way we let the client in, we involve them, we take on their ideas and then bring them to a higher level. For extensions and renovation projects, we offer clients the opportunity to have a Design Session with Fergus Flanagan in their home, right at the start of their project so that we can give advice and design ideas for their project.
