NEW MODERN “A” RATED HOUSE IN CLANE, CO. KILDARE BY FERGUS FLANAGAN ARCHITECTS.
This project involves the demolition of an existing poor quality two storey dwelling and the construction of a large new A-rated family home. The proposed new house consists of a large single storey building which is designed around the sun and also makes strong connections with the garden from all rooms. This house will be finished to the highest standard throughout incorporating all of the latest technology. The glass covered terrace area and outdoor fire are a direct response to the Irish climate which addresses the issue of using the outdoor space even in less than ideal conditions.
The site is beautiful with many mature trees and a well screened boundaries which meant that this site was very private.
The clients originally wanted a two storey home but when we investigated this with the use of our drone, it became apparent that if we were to build on first floor then all they would be looking at was the neighbours houses and sheds. The decision was made to construct a single storey house but to spread the house out on the site between the trees. The advantage of creating a single storey home was we could easily get sunlight into every room. The house is divided into separate blocks with link corridors between them. This helps facilitate noise reduction by creating an acoustic barriers. The house offers three covered terrace areas which means our clients can entertain outside regardless of the Irish weather.
We have designed this house through process designing, meaning we are thinking about how the family use the house on a daily basis. We have included a car port so you don’t get wet going to your car if its raining, from here you enter the boot room this leads to the open plan Kitchen – Living Space. Guests arrive at a glass covered entrance porch leading into a double height entrance hall.
The essence of giving a client what they want is good communication! We use the latest BIM technology which allows us to demonstrate proposals to our clients using interactive 3D models, computer generated images and videos. We can even do this remotely using Virtual Meeting software if necessary. In this way we let the client in, we involve them, we take on their ideas and then bring them to a higher level. For extensions and renovation projects, we offer clients the opportunity to have a Design Session with Fergus Flanagan in their home, right at the start of their project so that we can give advice and design ideas for their project.
